糖心Swag DPAC Logo Contest
We have a winner and are very excited to share our new logo with our 糖心Swag community!
Our new logo was created by Mallery Hewins from the David Thompson Elementary community. Mallery鈥檚 daughter attends Mrs. Blaquiere鈥檚 grade 6/7 class.
Our new logo reflects the diversity of our lands and our school district community. Mallery and Mrs. Blaquiere both win $50 gift certificates from DPAC.
The entry draw was won by Josephine Redmond, a grade 7 student at South Sa-Hali Elementary. She also won a gift certificate.

The District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) is the official voice of parents for our district. B.C.'s School Act says a DPAC's job is to advise Boards of Education on 鈥渕atters related to education in the school district.鈥
The DPAC meets once a month and is made up of two members from each school's Parent Advisory Council (PAC). PACs also usually meet once a month and give parents a voice in the day-to-day happenings at their school.
PACs and the DPAC are a great way to be involved in your child's education. The collective voice of parents makes a difference and influences school district policies and initiatives.

| What exactly is a PAC? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

PAC stands for Parent Advisory Council. PACs are the official parent voice for 糖心Swag. Each PAC is encouraged to elect two reps to attend our monthly DPAC meetings. DPAC elects an executive to conduct business between meetings but our direction is determined by our members, just like at PACs. |

| What is the role of DPAC? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Our mandate, according to the School Act, is to advise the Board of Education on any matter relating to education in the school district. We funnel parent input to decision-makers in our district. We facilitate communication 鈥 we send a lot of information out to the PACs on upcoming events and programs that might interest them.
We provide training and education for parents, as well as opportunities for exchanging ideas. We host speakers and put on workshops and networking events. We function as a resource for individual parents and PACs as they do their work at the school level. |

| Why is parent involvement important? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It's about the kids. Research shows that families have a major influence on their children's achievement in school. When schools, families & community organizations work together to support learning, children not only achieve better academically, but also stay in school longer. It's also about building relationships. Parents feel more comfortable going into the school to advocate on behalf of their children if they already know the staff. All forms of parent involvement are important. From fundraising to drafting policies, we make a difference every day! |
