Registration for Summer Learning 2023 is now closed.

In-person learning opportunities for elementary and secondary students are being offered during the month of July 2023. These courses are free to eligible students local to the Kamloops-Thompson area (under 19 years of age and not yet graduated). 

All courses and programs are subject to minimum enrollment.

Secondary Summer School 2023

Summer School is for students in grades 8-12 who were not successful in a core course and would prefer not to repeat the course the following school year. Full-credit courses are also available to students who have not yet taken a particular course and would like to do so in an intensive face-to-face program over a three-week timeframe in July.

  • Secondary Summer School will run daily on weekdays beginning Tuesday, July 4 to Monday, July 24, 2023 at Sa-Hali Secondary School, located at 255 Arrowstone Drive in Kamloops.
Two types of courses are offered:
  • Remedial courses - for students who achieved at least 40 per cent in a course and wish to improve their grade. Remedial courses provide 40 hours of instruction. Students who successfully complete a remedial course receive a "C.鈥 Students who wish to achieva higher mark than a 鈥淐鈥 should take a full-credit course. The school day hours for remedial courses are 8:45 AM 鈥 11:30 AM.
  • Full-credit courses - for students who achieved less than 40 per cent in a course, or students who have not taken a course previously. Full-credit courses provide 80 hours of instruction. The school day hours for full-credit courses are 8:45 AM - 2:45 PM.
  • NOTE: Students are limited to taking one full-credit course, or two remedial courses, during our July Summer Learning program.

Elementary Summer School 2023

Registration for the Primary Summer Reading and Intermediate Summer Math Programs occurs through a referral from your child's school.

Elementary Summer Learning will run daily on weekdays (Monday through Friday) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The program will start on Tuesday, July 4 (due to Canada Day) and end on Friday, July 21 at the following schools:

  • Raft River Elementary, Barriere Elementary, Rayleigh Elementary, Haldane Elementary (Chase), Logan Lake Secondary, Kay Bingham Elementary, South Sa-Hali Elementary

Intermediate Summer Math - for students in grades 4-7 referred by their classroom teacher because they would benefit from building skills and confidence in math. The focus is on number sense, patterns, and numeracy relationships.

Primary Summer Reading - for students in grades 1, 2, or 3 referred by their classroom teacher because they would benefit from extra support with reading. The focus is on comprehensive whole class literacy instruction and personal reading conferences. 

A French immersion program is available for grade 1 students, offered only at South Sa-Hali Elementary.
